ABOUT

ePathshala offers a vast array of educational materials, including NCERT textbooks for classes 1 to 12, audio-visual resources, periodicals, supplements, and teacher training modules. These resources are available in over 23 languages at the time of writing. The platform ensures that users can access resources across various devices, including laptops, desktops, tablets, and smartphones. The ePathshala app is compatible with Android, iOS, and Windows operating systems, facilitating learning on-the-go. Users have the option to download materials for offline use, ensuring uninterrupted learning experiences even without internet connectivity.

PROBLEM

The existing design exhibited issues such as inconsistent visual design, lack of personalization, and stability problems, leading to user confusion and dissatisfaction. The objective of this project was to identify these problem areas and implement design solutions to create a more efficient and user-friendly application.

METHODOLOGIES

USER RESEARCH -  User research was conducted to understand user needs, preferences, and pain points, providing insights into necessary design improvements.

COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS - Competitive analysis offered a benchmark against similar educational
applications, informing best practices and innovative features.

WIREFRAMING & PROTOTYPING - Facilitated the visualization of design concepts and allowed for
iterative refinement.

The outcomes of this project include a redesigned user interface that simplifies navigation, enhances user engagement, and improves the overall user experience.

SURVEY

To gain deeper insights into the Indian market for the brand, a comprehensive survey was conducted.

SURVEY FINDINGS

- The survey reveals that a significant majority of parents, teachers, and students are either unaware of or have not utilized the ePathshala app.

- Among the minority who have engaged with it, the primary uses include accessing educational videos and textbooks to aid in assignment completion.

- To enhance user engagement and functionality, introducing a comprehensive onboarding tutorial could familiarize new users with the app's features.

- Additionally, addressing existing technical issues is crucial to improve the overall user experience and encourage broader adoption.

JOURNEY MAPPING

ORIGINAL APP

The initial user experience of the app appears straightforward and promising;
however, as users navigate further, they encounter redundancy and instability.

Repeatedly prompting users to input the same information not only frustrates
them but also contradicts best practices in mobile app design, which advocate for
minimizing user input through features like smart defaults and autofill.

Additionally, frequent app crashes disrupt the learning process, leading to
shortened user sessions and diminished content engagement.

To address these issues, streamlining user flows and eliminating unnecessary steps are essential.

USER JOURNEY

By analyzing user journey parameters in relation to the time taken for each
interaction, we can pinpoint friction points and areas requiring optimization.

This process enables streamlining navigation, reduces user drop-offs, and enhances overall engagement within the ePathshala app.

Implementing such data-driven
insights is crucial for refining app performance and delivering a seamless user experience.

REVISED JOURNEY MAPPING

REDESIGNED APP

The optimized user flow emphasizes efficiency by systematically organizing
content and eliminating redundant tasks.

This approach not only streamlines
navigation but also aligns with best practices in user experience design, leading to enhanced user satisfaction and engagement.

MOODBOARD &
ADDED FEATURES

1. Dyslexia Friendly Font
Verdana is recognized for its accessibility features, including wider spacing and larger x-heights, which enhance readability for individuals with dyslexia.

2. Lightweight Libraries
To maintain a low storage footprint, the app utilizes compressed file formats ensuring a swift and lightweight learning
experience, particularly beneficial in environments with fluctuating network
conditions or limited data availability.

3. Hybrid Application
The original ePathshala app employs a web-based framework with a pseudo-hybrid structure, resulting in inconsistent navigation and a disjointed user experience. To address these issues, the app's navigation has been restructured to provide a more seamless and intuitive experience.

4. Bookmarks & Notes
Allowing users to bookmark content ranging from entire chapters to individual sentences. This feature enables users to easily revisit important sections during their studies. These features collectively streamline the study process, making it more efficient and tailored to individual learning needs.

5.Color Blind Friendly Palette
Recognizing that color vision deficiency affects a significant portion of the
population, the app's color scheme has been meticulously designed and tested to ensure accessibility.

6. Text to Speech
For students with attention difficulties, TTS can improve focus and retention by engaging auditory pathways, facilitating better information processing.

FUTURE PLANS

- The initial phase involves revisiting the foundational design to integrate insights gathered from professionals during the exhibition.

- Enhancing layouts for greater intuitiveness and more effectively utilizing the colors are the key objectives.

- Building a collaborative community around this initiative is essential, as collective effort is crucial for meaningful progress.

- Implementing adaptive learning algorithms to offer personalized content recommendations and introducing an intuitive onboarding tutorial for new users.

- A continuous feedback loop will be established for ongoing iteration and user testing, ensuring the app evolves based on user needs and feedback.

CONCLUSION

Throughout the development of this report, I have gained a comprehensive understanding of UI/UX design principles, app development processes, and the digital education landscape in India.

India's digital education sector is undergoing a significant transformation, with projections indicating substantial growth in the coming years. The widespread adoption of digital technologies has revolutionized the delivery, accessibility, and consumption of educational content. However, challenges such as the digital divide, language barriers, and the quality of digital content persist. Addressing these issues necessitates collaborative efforts from both public and private sectors to ensure equitable access to quality
digital education.

Through this project, I have attempted to contribute meaningfully to the ongoing digitization and democratization of education in India.
